What is the Texas Democratic Convention, anyway?
The Texas Democratic Convention is the largest state convention in the country. It typically occurs every two years and serves as a gathering for party members, delegates, elected officials, candidates, and activists from across the state to elect national delegates, discuss party platforms and strategize for upcoming elections.
At the Texas Democratic Convention, attendees participate in workshops, caucus meetings, speeches, and networking opportunities. It is an essential forum for shaping the direction of the Texas Democratic Party and rallying support for Democratic candidates and causes.
Texas remains the battleground of battlegrounds, and firmly holds a spotlight within the 2024 national political arena. This general election cycle will ultimately shape the electoral landscape in Texas for generations to come. And to kick-off our path to November, the Texas Democratic Party is proud to announce the official 2024 Texas Democratic Convention keynote addresses from U.S. Senate Candidate Congressman Colin Allred.
Why is the Texas Democratic Convention held in El Paso?
The location of the Texas Democratic Convention changes bi-annually to showcase each corner of the beautiful Lone Star State, and each location is voted on by the State Executive Democratic Committee.
This year's Texas Democratic Convention will be historic, as it's the first convention held in a border community in over 20 years.

County/Congressional District Conventions
Saturday, March 23, 2024
County/Congressional District Conventions will be held across Texas on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Those who attend the local conventions will then begin to select state delegates to represent them at the 2024 Texas Democratic Convention in El Paso this June.
The amount of state delegates that a County/Congressional District is generally allocated is based on the performance of the last Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee divided by 300, by rule.

National Delegates
The Texas Democratic Party is excited to send national delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. Delegates are allocated to Presidential candidates based on the outcome of the March 5, 2024 Super Tuesday Primary in Texas.
The Texas 2024 National Delegate Selection Plan for the 2024 Democratic National Convention includes sending 273 national delegates and 20 alternates from the Texas Delegation from the 2024 Texas Democratic Convention in El Paso to the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago -- an increase of 11 National Delegates and 1 Alternate from Texas’ 2020 Delegate Selection Plan.
