Mary Zimmerman’s adaptation of Metamorphoses brings Ovid’s ancient tales to the stage with a contemporary approach and dance elements. From the myth of Midas, the king who turned everything gold with a single touch, to the mourning musician Orpheus, who dared descend to the underworld to retrieve his wife’s soul, Eurydice, each story is faithfully told with a modern twist.
Metamorphoses is a searing look into how the human body changes in response to outside circumstances or the emotions we carry inside us. Each myth has a central theme, such as grief, avarice. Arrogance or love that cause their central character to accept that change, however drastic, is part of the human experience.
Change in all things is sweet -Aristotle.
